Nevada School Board Meets For September Meeting

The Nevada School Board met Thursday (9-26) and reorganized the board as they are required to do following school elections says Superintendent Rick McAfee.  The new president is Jeremy Casey with Jerry Bishop serving as Vice-President.  Nelwyn Almand will serve as secretary.  Brandon Rhodes was lauded for his service during the 2012/2013 school year as President.  McAfee says he appreciates all the board members who give so much of their time to serve on the school board. The Nevada School Board got an update Thursday about some updates on lunch room software and equipment says Superintendent Rick McAfee.  The school got both new equipment and new software to benefit record keeping in the cafeteria.  McAfee says the improvements will both benefit the school and the students.  He noted the new equipment was much needed. Look for computers to function better at the Nevada Schools thanks to the installation of some new “fiber” at the school says Superintendent Rick McAfee.  He noted the school has had a bandwidth problem and worked with state representative David Fielding and Senator Bruce Maloch to receive a grant for the new fiber.  McAfee says the bandwidth will be 100 times more capacity than the school had before.  The expanded bandwidth capacity is important for the school as more and more learning tools are powered by technology. The Nevada Schools will hold their fall festival soon says Superintendent Rick McAfee.  The fall festival is set for October 17th.  Parents with questions about the fall festival can call the school at 871-2418. While many schools are just into football good, another sport is on the horizon at many of the small schools like Nevada says Superintendent Rick McAfee.  The Blue/Gray game is set for October 15th and the pee wee teams are already into their season.  Our best wishes go to the Nevada Blue Jays and Lady Jays as they prepare for basketball season. The Nevada Schools will host flu vaccinations for students and the public in October.  Students will receive the flu shots in the morning on October 24th and the public can get their shots that afternoon.  The clinic is put on by the Nevada County Health Unit with assistance from student nurses at UACCH.  For times you can call the school at 871-2418. Parents of students in the Nevada Public Schools will want to mark October 24th on their calendar says Superintendent Rick McAfee.  McAfee encourages all parents to make plans to attend the parent/teacher conferences October 24th at Nevada.
