The Brazzel Funeral Homes have had a booth at the Hope Watermelon Festival for the past several years to visit with their friends. This year Brazzel – Oakcrest is giving away a free bar b cue smoker to one of those who signed up at their booth. The lucky winner was drawn Tuesday August 11th and it is Judy Alexander. Super Country’s Terri Elvis takes a few minutes Saturday August 8th to meet Buddy Jewell before he takes the stage at the Hope Watermelon Festival. Reportedly Jewell asked Terri to “Help Pour Out the Rain” but she replied she had to get back to some “Sweet Southern Comfort.”
The Hope Lions Club heard from the “TNT” 14 and under softball team on Monday August 10th. The team recently competed in the USFA World Series in Panama City, Florida. The team also recently assisted the Lions Club with their fish fry at the Watermelon Festival. We at the Lions Club are saying goodbye today to Robert Orren. Orren is youth minister at the Hope Church of Christ but he and his family will be moving to Camden as he becomes the pulpit minister at the Cullendale Church of Christ. These were the top 3 finishers in the Watermelon Eating Contest Saturday. They are age infant to seven winner Dane Hughes of Arkadelphia, sixteen and up winner Ivey Roberts of Bentonville, and age eight to fifteen winner Whitley Richards of Hope. Whitley won the overall contest
Despite a stout challenge from Prosecutor Christi McQueen, Hempstead County Sheriff James Singleton once again took top honors in the “Politically Correct” Watermelon Eating Contest Saturday at the Hope Watermelon Festival. Coming in third was Hempstead County Judge Haskell Morse.
SuperCountry 105’s popular host of the “Morning Buzz”, Jason Helms served as the emcee for Friday and Saturday night Watermelon Festival Concerts. He did his usual great job and we think the Liverpool Legends tried to draft him to become the “Fifth Beetle”!
